Does the city of Phoenix, Arizona prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in private employment?

Arleen Bussing: Idk

Nikita Schroepfer: Contrary to what one poster attempted to put forth there is no federal law banning discrimination because of sexual orientation or gender identity. There is an executive order that specifically outlaws discrimination based on sexual orientation in the federal government employment. However, this executive order does not carry the same power as a federal law and it only affects those employed by the federal government. The state of Arizona offers no discrimination protection based on either sexual orientation or gender identity. However the city of Phoenix has enacted a local ordinance that protects against discrimination because of sexual orientation and gender identity. However, the way the ordinances are designed they appear to deal more specifically with public employment and not private. Thus the city and its hired contractors may not discriminate but others in the private sector are not bound by the ordinance. http://ph! oenis.gov/eod/faqs/faqdiscrimination/inde......Show more

Oscar Waddups: Sexual orientation is NOT a protected class in Federal regulations or in City of Phoenix statutes according to the web sites below.

Rosann Mccomb: Its a federal law, so a local law would be redundant. Report anyone that does discriminate to the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission
