Nikki Sypult: NO! You can NOT sell the car until YOU register and title it in your own name. Until you do legally it is still the property of the person you bought it from according to your states DMV records. You can't sell what legally is NOT yours. What you are proposing to do is called "Title Jumping", and it's illegal. You are trying to screw the state out of the fees due that every car owner must pay when they buy a car. If you sell it without a CLEAR title the buyer will NOT be able to register the car, and can sue you to rescind the sale, and get their money back....Show more
Garrett Detone: Yes, but DMV can give you the information for the previous owner so you can get a new title, it is still in their name.
Estrella Northway: I don't want to get a title i need the money for a new car and just want to get rid of this one. Just need to know if its legal to sell a car that is mine but has no title without getting in trouble.
Indira Wassell: With! out clear title you do not have the legal right to sell the car. As of now you cannot prove the car is yours.Go to the DMV or state facility and ask how to get a car titled in your name. I am sure your state's website has info, too. There should be a way to apply for a duplicate title. When it is in your name, you can do whatever you want with the car. Most people will not buy a car without a clear title. Why would they? It would be impossible for them to title and register the car in their name without a title from you ( the seller)....Show more
